My name is Paul Hill. I am the President of Hill’s Jamaican Jerk. Our Vision is: To be recognized as the leading food manufacturer in Atlantic Canada, providing quality in all our products and delivering exceptional service to our customers. The business was established in May 2016 as a small, home-based business and I sold primarily to friends and family. As appreciation for the product grew, so did my aspirations to expand, and six months later I introduced the Jerk Sauce line into Pete’s Fine Foods. As sales increased, I expanded into Sobeys and business has been great! My products are now available in many small local businesses in Nova Scotia and listed in all Sobeys in Atlantic Canada.

As my production needs grew, I realized I needed to start manufacturing on a larger scale; however, finding a local manufacturing facility was very challenging. I quickly recognized a need for this service in Nova Scotia, and decided to pursue opening my own commercial kitchen facility to fill this gap. My doors opened in December, 2018, with the intention of helping other local entrepreneurs in similar situations by providing co-packaging services. My kitchen facility is 1172 sq. ft. and is equipped with an industrial-size 4-burner stove, oven, grill, steam kettle, filling machine, capping machine, labelling machine, work tables, dishwasher, walk-in cooler, freezer and lots of storage space. My facility is HACCP certified, GMP certified, SFC certified and located in Harrietsfield, Halifax, Nova Scotia.

We currently co-pack for 11 different companies; some are currently listed in Sobeys and others are going through the procedures of being listed. These companies can now export their products due to our certifications, so not only did we create a home for Hill’s Jamaican Jerk, we also provided a home for many other local businesses to help them grow. I could not be more proud.

In August, 2021, I started a new company, Maritime Foods and Co-Packing. The vision for Maritime Foods is to work with the local farmers in Nova Scotia to produce local products, with the goal of reducing waste and our carbon footprint. We aim to secure our food sources in Nova Scotia, to be less reliant on international foods that we are capable of producing locally. We are in the very early stage of product development and will be working with Sobeys to launch these new products.
